DRIVER #6 // DAMS

What’s in Nicholas Latifi’s trackside kit? The Canadian unzips the hold-all and shows us what he can’t do without on a race weekend.

FOAM ROLLER

It’s quite a nice tool to loosen any stiff muscles up, without having to go for a massage or anything. I’ll use it in the morning when I’m feeling a bit stiff from the previous day, or even before getting in the car sometimes before my warmup or just any point in the day if I want to loosen up a bit. It’s good for my lower back, as a tall driver that’s an area that’s a bit uncomfortable.

SKIPPING ROPE AND ELASTIC BAND

I’ve got some various pieces of kit to warm up, firstly, the skipping rope to get the heart rate up before starting the actual warmup. There’s also the elastic band to do some resistance stuff, and which helps me to wake up some of the muscles – back, chest, arms. I also use it to do some stretching, to open up my chest area.

BALLS

We’ve got a tennis ball and a small reaction ball which we incorporate into the warmup. They help warm up my reactions, my co-ordination and work with my peripheral vision. We can use it for a number of exercises with my trainer.

MEDICAL SUPPLIES

I have a medical box I take everywhere, my trainer works for a company called Hintsa and they provide all the drivers they help out with a medical box, which goes everywhere you go. It’s pretty much for the most part in case you get sick, but there’s also things like allergies, stomach pains and headaches, so there’s things in there that you should be able to take based off the anti-doping list.

PHONE

What driver doesn’t take their phone everywhere they go? [laughs]
